Pre Pregnancy Screening
Private pre-pregnancy screening is offered to all women who are considering ever having children, be that soon or in the next few years. The earlier the consultation is done the better the preparation can be for your body ready for pregnancy in the future. (Please note many vaccinations require three months from vaccination before pregnancy is advised so it is worth planning your screening well in advance.)
Pre Pregnancy Screening
If you are planning to get pregnant we offer a range of screening tests for viruses which you may not be immune to but can be immunised against before you get pregnant such as mumps, measles rubella and chicken pox. These viruses can cause significant birth defects in unborn babies if contracted whilst pregnant but if you are found to be non immune you can be vaccinated before you try to conceive.
We also offer screening for cytomegalovirus, toxoplasmosis, Chlamydia and gonorrhoea all of which can impact on pregnancy if not diagnosed and treated before conception. Whilst all of these are easily treatable, many of the treatments for these infections cannot be given once pregnant.
As well as screening we offer advice on preparation for pregnancy and cover aspects of nutrition and lifestyle preparation. We recommend you commence screening and preparation approximately a year before you start trying to conceive.
